Kandyan Dancing
Kandyan Dancing
Kandyan Dance is not just a traditional dance for me, it is a part of who I am. From the beautiful cultural city of Kandy, this dance carries a deep history and meaning that I feel every time I step onto the stage.
As a student of dance, Kandyan dancing has taught me more than just movements. It has taught me discipline, strength, and confidence. Every step, every turn, and every gesture has a story behind it. When I practice, I don’t just dance, I express my feelings and connect with a tradition that goes back to rituals like the Kohomba Kankariya
I still remember the feeling when I first tried the movements. It was not easy. Kandyan dancing is powerful and requires a lot of energy and dedication. But with time, practice, and guidance, I started to feel the rhythm of the Geta Beraya within me. That rhythm became my strength.
Wearing the traditional costume is one of the most special moments for me. It makes me feel proud and connected to my culture. When I perform, especially in events like the Esala Perahera, I feel like I am a part of something bigger—something meaningful and beautiful.
Kandyan dancing is not always easy. There are days I feel tired, days I feel like giving up. But my love for dance always brings me back. It reminds me why I started and how much this art means to me.
For me, Kandyan dancing is not just an art—it is my passion, my strength, and my identity. And I will continue to dance, learn, and grow with it for the rest of my life. 💃🤍
