My Dance Journey
My Dance Journey
Dance is not just a talent for me - it is my passion, my strength and my identity. My journey began when I was a little girl in primary school, full of dreams and curiosity. Growing up in Sri Lanka, I was always inspired by our beautiful traditional dance culture.
I started my dance journey at G/Rewatha National School in Balapitiya, where my love for dance slowly turned into a lifelong passion. Behind my journey is a very special person - my beloved teacher, Nadeesha Sumuduni. She was not only my teacher, but also my guide, my strength and the one who believed in me even when I doubted myself.
My first big step was participating in the All-Ceylon competition for Eluwan Kama. At that time, I was still very young and nervous. We won second place in the Southern Province, and that moment changed everything for me. That was the day I realized that I wanted to continue with dance.
After that, I started competing every year. The journey wasn’t always easy. There were times when I felt tired, stressed, and discouraged. Balancing studies, training, and personal life was difficult. Sometimes, things didn’t go as I expected, and I also faced emotional challenges.
One of the hardest parts of my journey was dealing with the changes in relationships and support. There were times when I felt alone, especially when things weren't the same with my teacher. It hurt me deeply, because she was an important part of my journey. But even through that pain, I didn't stop dancing - because dancing was the only thing that kept me strong.
My last All-Ceylon competition was for Surapathi Vanama. That performance was very emotional for me. It wasn't just a dance - it was my story, my struggles, my growth and my passion expressed on one stage. In that competition, I secured 3rd place at the All-Ceylon level, and that moment meant everything to me.
Since 2024, being an Islandwide Dance Winner has been one of my proudest achievements in my school career. But more than the awards, it's my journey, the tears, the hard work, and the love of dance that truly defines me.
