Vesak Uthsawaya
Vesak Uthsawaya
During Vesak, Sri Lanka is transformed into a land of lights. Streets, homes and temples are decorated with colorful lanterns and lights, known as Vesak lanterns. These lights symbolize wisdom and the spread of peace and kindness in the world. We feel a sense of calm and happiness when we see these decorations.
One of the most important aspects of Vesak is religious observance. Devotees visit temples such as Sri Dalada Maligawa and other places of worship to offer flowers, light oil lamps, and listen to Dhamma sermons. It is a time to reflect on the teachings of Lord Buddha and to practice kindness, compassion, and mindfulness.
Vesak encourages us to reflect on our actions and live a better life. It teaches us to let go of anger, practice forgiveness, and follow a peaceful path. It is not just a festival - it is a reminder to improve ourselves and live with a good heart.
